Crosscare Migrant Project

Crosscare Migrant Project

Crosscare Migrant Project is a Dublin based NGO that provides pre-departure advice and support to intending Irish emigrants but also to returning/returned Irish emigrants. Their returning service has particular expertise in helping people to access welfare and housing on return and tends to work with more vulnerable people too. Crosscare Migrant Project is part funded by the Emigrant Support Programme of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is a project of Crosscare, the social support agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin.

On October 5, Ann Alsaffar, President, IWN-ON, joined representatives of other Irish organizations at the office of the Embassy of Ireland to meet with Crosscare’s Joe O’Brien. Joe has been with Crosscare Migrant Project for almost 11 years but earlier this year was seconded to a new role – Irish Abroad Networking Officer. The role has a three-fold purpose. Firstly, to make sure Crosscare is more connected with issues on the ground for Irish emigrants all over the world. Secondly, to make sure that organisations who are working with Irish emigrants are fully aware of their returning service. And thirdly, the role also aims to increase communication and learning between all Irish organisations working with (particularly vulnerable) Irish emigrants across the globe. They will be developing a regular newsletter to serve this function.
